Swindon regional meeting a great success

May 3, 2011

We gathered at Swindon College on one of the many wonderful days we’ve had this Spring – several delegates took their lunch out into the sunshine and I wasn’t sure we’d be able to entice them back inside! But the quality of the speakers made sure that everyone stayed right to the end, discussing social media, employer engagement and collaboration.

Steve Evans, Director of Netnatives, joined us again to talk about using social media platforms to engage with NEETs, and Sarah Baxter & Lee Parker from Bedford College shared their experiences of developing an effective employer engagement strategy using traditional methods like business breakfasts and new media channels like LinkedIn. Tracy Vernon gave us an overview of Swindon College’s use of Facebook for a range of campaigns, including one that ran over the closedown period at Christmas and the New Year, keeping the college’s name in front of their customers. Finally Sylvia Jarman and Roselle Thompson from Exeter College talked about their collaboration project with Flybe which has been incredibly valuable for the college and also helped them win Gold at the FE First Awards 2010.

Feedback was very positive and included comments like

  • “Excellent content, very relevant”,
  • “Some really good information from all speakers: it is very useful to listen to others’ experience”,
  • “Very relevant presentations on social networking with good balance of strategic and operational issues”.

Thanks as always to our hosts at Swindon College, espeically Carla Tucker and Tracy Vernon, and also to their Principal Andrew Miller who took the time to come in and say hello and welcome us.
