UCAS first statistics on 2012 applications

November 9, 2011

The first stats from UCAS for 2012 university applications were published towards the end of October and show a slight drop of 0.8% so far.

UCAS are making it clear it is “too early in the cycle to extrapolate applicant figures” overall, but the drop is higher amongst women than men, and is concentrated amongst older applicants – just the demographic who may look at HE in FE as an alternative perhaps?

Applications in the north east, east midlands and Yorkshire & Humber regions show the highest drop, while those from London and the south east are holding up well.

The BBC published a survey of young people’s attitudes on the same day as the UCAS statistics, showing that just over half of the 1000+ interviewed were still keen to go to university despite the fees.
