2014 VQ Day nominations open

February 5, 2014

News from Edge about VQ Day 2014……

Taking place on 4th June, the seventh annual VQ Day will celebrate vocational achievement, aiming to promote parity of esteem for vocational qualifications alongside academic paths.

At the heart of the VQ Day celebrations are the VQ students, teachers and supportive employers themselves, and nominations for the 2014 VQ Day Awards open on the 5th February.

If you know of any vocational students that have gone above and beyond to achieve their qualification or a local employer that has championed vocational learning in the workplace we encourage you to put them forward for a VQ Learner of the Year Award, sponsored by OCR or VQ Employer of the Year Award, sponsored by City & Guilds.

Also, new in England for 2014, we have the VQ Newly Qualified FE Teacher of the Year Award, sponsored by the IFL. This is to celebrate the efforts of the thousands of teachers and trainers who help learners gain the skills, experience, qualifications and motivation they need to get the edge.

How to nominate

The nomination process is simple and the deadline for all nominations is 2nd May. All nomination forms for all awards and all nations can be found here.

England will have nine regional winners as well as one overall national winner for the Learner Award and two category winners- SME and Large Corporate- as well as an overall national winner for the Employer Award.

Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland will have overall national winners for both the Learner and Employer Award.

The new Teacher Award is open to nominees in England only and there will be a single overall national winner.

Get involved

Last year, over 400 schools, colleges and learning providers got involved by hosting events and promoting VQ Day. The best way to get started is to download the Action Pack which includes plenty of ideas, advice and tips on how to make the most of VQ Day and celebrate vocational excellence.  The pack also includes a template press release and other materials to raise awareness and promote your event.

Also on the website you’ll find posters, leaflets, website buttons and plenty of ways to share your VQ stories, including our Digital Yearbook and Roll Call.

Case Studies

We are always looking for exceptional and interesting people in vocational fields to use as case studies for media. Perhaps you had to overcome a stereotype or lack of support in order to pursue your vocation. Or maybe you found yourself heading down a path to higher education that you realised wasn’t for you. Maybe you’re an employer or teacher who has always championed vocational learning. Whoever you are, if you’re proud of your story we want to hear about it. So, if you know of any students, employers or teachers who are excelling in their field, have an interesting story to tell and would be happy to talk to media, please contact the team at vqday@tinmancomms.com. Please include ‘CASE STUDY’ in the subject line.
